The Origins of Sibú
Our name pays homage to the Bribri and Cabecar creator god, Sibú, who spread the seeds of life to create all the plants and animals of the world. Among Sibú’s most revered creations, cacao still figures prominently in indigenous traditions. The seeds of the fruit were prized as much as gold and jade, and even used as currency in Costa Rica well into the 19th Century. In honor of this heritage, we decorate our chocolates with designs used by pre-Columbian civilizations from this part of the world.
